30 Mar Don’t Count Money
I came across a short clip from The School of Hard Knocks that stuck with me. The advice was simple: don’t count other people’s money.
Todd Nepola talks about how easy it is to look around – especially online – and assume everyone else is doing better, has more, or is ahead. But a lot of what you see isn’t real. And even when it is, it’s not yours to measure yourself against. There will always be someone with more, or someone better at making it look like they do.
It made me think about our own life.
Your dad and I worked hard to build what we have, and we were always intentional about where our money went. A lot of it went straight into you – your education, your opportunities, your foundation. I still remember one of you asking why our family didn’t have something. I explained that our priority was your private school education – and that if we weren’t choosing to invest in that, we could probably afford it. Your response? “Well, my friend has one and his parents pay for private school too.” That made me laugh… but it also proved the point.
We never made decisions based on what others had. We stayed in our lane. And when we did get something we’d wanted, it meant more – because it was earned, planned for, and ours.
And here’s the part I want you to hold onto:
Don’t compare. Don’t spend to impress. Let what others have inspire you – not intimidate you. If you want something, go earn it. There’s a different kind of confidence that comes with that.
So my request is:
Go at your own pace. Stay focused on what you’re building. And when you see something you want – use it as fuel, not pressure.
