Descriptions

G. Scotten Talent Center offers weekly dance classes throughout the school year and a Summer Dance Camp in June. Our diverse class schedule serves toddlers through adults, beginners through advanced.

TINY TOT

Toddlers enjoy music and movement in a dance studio atmosphere. Instructors incorporate handheld props and singing while dancing along to playful tunes. The curriculum further enhances rhythm, coordination, attention and social skills in older toddlers. Parents do not participate in this class; they may watch from the viewing windows.

DISCOVER DANCE

Classes are designed to increase fine motor skills, musical and spatial awareness, cooperation, listening skills, patience and self-confidence. During tap classes, students will learn basic tap sounds and steps to build upon as they progress. In ballet class, students learn fundamental positions of the feet and arms and other basic ballet skills.

INTERMEDIATE 1

Intermediate classes provide students Grades 2-5 a well-rounded dance education in tap, jazz and ballet. Students will learn and build up on skills attained in Elementary level classes while broadening their knowledge and use of vocabulary and proper technique. The curriculum involved in this collection of classes will help students further develop strength, flexibility, rhythm and timing, coordination, gracefulness, style and poise.

TEEN

Teen Classes are for students who generally come to the studio just once a week.  They have a desire to dance and they want to improve or maintain their technique and basic skills. They also want to pursue more advanced skills and tricks.  Students in Teen Classes are often students who grew up in our Pre-K and/or Elementary program and now are pursuing school activities or other outside interests in addition to their one or two nights per week at dance. Students interested in joining a school dance team find just the right fit to enhance their skills for team competition and performance. Many dance team members at Fishers area schools learned to dance at G. Scotten Talent Center.

PRE-PROFESSIONAL

Pre-Professional Classes are divided among four levels of ability. They range from Tiny Talent to Advanced 1 through Advanced 4 and are reserved for serious dancers and by recommendation or audition only.  This accelerated course of study is designed for students with an unyielding passion for dance and a commitment to dance excellence and skill mastery. Dance is the primary extra-curricular activity for Pre-Professional students. However, we have scheduled classes and rehearsals to give them ample time to pursue other activities or commitments as well. Students in each level meet 2-3 times weekly for convenient, consecutively scheduled classes.

DANCE STYLES

Ballet

Ballet is the foundation of proper technique and body placement and helps students achieve their maximum potential in all other dance forms. The beginning ballet dancer will practice basic technique and vocabulary with focus on body alignment and center. The intermediate ballet dancer will focus on proper technique, alignment and movement quality while developing core strength and flexibility. The advanced ballet dancer will continue to refine ballet technique, demonstrate a comprehensive knowledge of ballet vocabulary and may be considered for pointe work.

Tap

The beginning tap dancer will build upon basic tap skills and terminology while refining control, rhythm and sound. The intermediate tap dancer will combine basic tap skills to produce more challenging steps and rhythms with an emphasis on speed and sound clarity. The advanced tap dancer has a comprehensive knowledge of tap skills, vocabulary and technique and will be challengedwith intricate and difficult rhythmic combinations.

Jazz

Students gain strength and flexibility through technical jazz exercises emphasizing rhythm and coordination. The beginning jazz dancer builds upon basic jazz skills, technique and terminology with an emphasis on movement quality and technique. The intermediate jazz dancer will gain greater strength and flexibility through more difficult training exercises in preparation for more complex sequencing and skills with an emphasis on proper technique and movement quality. The advanced jazz dancer has a comprehensive knowledge of jazz skills and terminology and will continue to refine movement style and quality through fast-paced and innovative choreography.

Teen Jazz/Contemporary

This is a fast-paced one-hour class incorporating all of the skills that current school and all-star dance teams require at their auditions and in their performances. This class is also an excellent weekly technique class for dancers already participating on a school or all-star team. Class curriculum incorporates conditioning, leaps and turns, Jazz technique and Contemporary. Intermediate through Advanced level dancers are encouraged to attend. This class can be taken alone or in conjunction with other classes to provide a more well-rounded dance experience.

Hip Hop

Students enrolled in Hip Hop will enjoy the fast paced nature of this class. They will learn the newest moves to the hottest new music. You’ll have a blast enhancing your coordination skills in Hip Hop. No experience necessary, everyone is welcome. However, we highly recommend pairing the Hip Hop class with a technique-based jazz or ballet class for a more well-rounded dance education.
